Your Houston Appreciation Weekend Guide

What is Houston Appreciation Weekend?

To understand what Houston Appreciation Weekend, a.k.a #HAW, is all about, you have to go back to it’s orgin. Back in early 2014, as Drake was ascending to the top of the music world. He was announcing the talent to grace the stage with him at the 5th Annual OVO Fest in Toronto, but then went on to announce a new event going down in Houston in June. That event ended up going from an idea to one of the fastest growing annual party weekends of the year.

The 2014 event surpassed everyone’s expectations, as Drake put on one of his best performances of his career.

Aside from the events going down in Houston that weekend, many out of towners got their first taste of OG Ron C and the Chopstars, who dropped the classic OVO HAW Chopstars Mixtape.

In 2016, HAW was on Labor Day Weekend. We saw the event grow, as the Houston Celebrity Basketball game drew athletes and entertainers from all over, and proceeds were donated to charity. Drake also announced that he is opening a new club in Houston, titled The Ballet, in 2017. If you will be in the city for Superbowl 51 in February, you might be lucky enough to catch the grand opening, although the official date has yet to be confirmed.
